WHY AM I A GUIDE?
I had a very happy childhood in a small town in the East of England with two older brothers and teacher parents. We all spent weekends and holidays exploring, anything and everything, and being curious about the world around us.
At university, I looked after American high school students visiting Europe for the first time. I’m amazed they gave me the job. I had hardly travelled and was barely older than they were. But, aged 19, I had stumbled upon what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Work took me all over Europe, especially France and then to the USA, but it was London where I wanted to live. To this day, I can’t quite believe that I live in this extraordinary city. So, I brought together the two things I loved best and became a London Blue Badge Guide. It's the best job in the world.
Over the years, I have guided an extraordinary variety of places and themes, but I will never forget what it’s like to come here for the first time and to start at the beginning.
